A big THANK YOU goes out to Dalton for cleaning the computer room! He did a fabulous job and it looks amazing :)
Emerson also receives a bit THANK YOU for helping the first graders with their computer lesson this week! They loved you :) On this season of relaxation, I had a very much-needed break from educational studies. One of the things I had the opportunity to accomplish on this refreshing period of time was to visit Belle Glade with my church campus for the length of a week. The time and memories I had there will be treasured endlessly.
When we arrived at Glades Day School, a local school that became our home over the course of seven days, everyone poured out of the hot, oven-like school buses to be greeted by unbearable humidity and bothersome mosquitos. But when the actual work began, our testing and menial labor was worth the price. During my time working at Osceola Park, a small, half acre of grass in the middle of a humble neighborhood, I met a young girl: Cherish. Cherish was a six year old girl who lived with her single-mother in a small shack that could barely be considered livable. Cherish and I grew very close during our week together. We played in a bounce house, colored pictures and masks, and spent every second of the time we had together. Cherish gave her young heart to Christ on a Thursday through the love of our church and our volunteers. That experience will remain in my heart forever, and I will never forget that fun, kind-hearted, and feisty little girl. This summer I went to Nickelodeon! I went with my mom, my mom’s friend, and her niece. The first thing I did when I got there was look at the view. The view had a beautiful waterpark with a humongous pool. My brother and I BEGGED to go to the waterpark while they unpacked, but my mom said no, we had to unpack first. After we ate, we put our bathing suits STRAIGHT on, and went down the elevator to the waterpark. When I got to the waterpark I went on the slide, it was a huge twisty orange slide! Everything is orange at Nickelodeon. After the waterpark, me and my brother put our clothes in the hamper and watched TV for a bit, we watched Double Dare. My mom and I were going to the store and we saw that we could be on Double Dare, we signed up and we got in! So we played, we were the Nutty Slimers! We lost, and I smashed pie in my face, my mom didn’t want to get pie in her face so she put a little on her nose, but they weren’t letting her get away with that! The man had a girl smash pie in my mom’s face! We were laughing so hard! After that we went home, stared at the view and put on our PJ’s and went to bed. In the morning my mom made PANCAKES and I ate them. They were SOO GOOD, I put syrup and butter on them D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S, I watched TV, there was nothing good on!!!! THEN SUDDENLY THE TV SHOUTED FAIRLY GOD PARENTS! MY FAVORITE NICK SHOW!!!!!!! I watched it for a little bit :l. Then I wasn’t tired anymore and went to the waterpark and swam to the SLIME BUCKET!!!! I GOT SLIMED! IT WAS SO AWESOME!!! I WAS SWIMMING IN SLIME!!! I WAS LIKE “o m GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!” After the waterpark I was tired again, I HATE being tired because I’m a grumpy grump. So I took a nap in my bunk bed. The walls of my room had The Rascals on it and it was like I was in a TV show. I dreamed about food than I realized, I WAS HUNGRY, my belly was aching and I was about to throw up! So I got outta bed and I made myself a sandwich. I then realized that all to do at Nickelodeon WAS TO GO TO THE WATERPARK, so we went to dinner (which was unfair because I just made myself a sandwich) but THERE WAS TMNT PERFORMING AND I SUDDENLY DIDN’T WANNA GO TO DINNER ANYMORE. I watched for a while at the high view, but mom said it was time to go to dinner. The next day it was our Last Day at Nickelodeon, I was DEPRESSED. But let’s face the facts, I was there for a long time, so I had my fun (WHICH WAS A TON-O-FUN) and we left. I had a TON-O-FUN AT NICK AND I WILL NEVER FORGET EVERY LAsT PIECE OF IT!
My Summer
For my summer I went to camp with my church youth group in Greenville, South Carolina for about a week in July. I went to camp because I went last year and had a lot of fun. I also went because I wanted to get closer to God, which I did. At camp I learned a lot of fun things like how to be bold, be last and to be real. Being bold means that you have to be bold in your faith in God and not being afraid to show your love for Him. Being last is putting other people’s needs before yours like Jesus did when he washed the feet of his disciples, and being real is being real with your faith in God. If you have tweens or teens you already know how much time they can spend on social media. The article How to help your kids use social websites more safely is a great resource full of advice and tips for parents to keep their children safe.
My Summer
Two weeks before school started my family and I decided to go to the keys and have fun like we do every year before school starts. So the next day we pack. That took all day. So the day after we just rested and relaxed. We all went to bed early and we slept and the next day we woke very early. We left at 12:00. We were supposed to get there at like 1:00 to 1:30. We did not get there until 5:45 to 6:00. It was supposed to be a 3 hour drive. It ended up being a 5 hour drive that took us all day. When we got there at 5:30 we put our boat in the water by our condo. We went to the condo and unpacked. We emptied all of our stuff. My mom went to the store and bought dinners. She got home and cooked dinner. I fished while she cooked. I caught a snapper. I went back and it was dark. On the first day we went on the boat and went scuba diving. On the second day we went spearfishing. One the third day we went sightseeing. That was the end of the trip. The end. by McKenna, 4th gradeThis summer we went to a softball game and stayed there for a week. It was a blast. Then I went to Crystal River with my Grammy and Papa. We stayed there for three days. Then we went on a cruise for a week to the Gulf of Mexico. I ate free ice cream. Then my Grammy got a new house and I got to go to help out. Then I went to my big sister’s friend Lauren’s house. I went fishing. We caught 3 bass and I caught 1 tarpon. Then my family and I, also my cousins, went inner tubing and fishing. We caught a big snapper and a lot of little snook. And I played with my best friend Piper. We swam in her pool and we played with her chickens. This was the best summer ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of our students wrote "My Summer" stories on Microsoft Word during the first few weeks of computer class. I will be posting a few of the stories over the next week, I hope you enjoy them.
